My latest mixed media work made into a set of 3 cards, these cards were available in my madeit store and are now SOLD. Now I am working on a few more mixed media - especially for cards or to frame. See artbylyn for more details over the next couple of weeks.
Today I started my new page titled Hearts. I came across a weekly challenge on the internet a few days ago, not that I am a weekly challenge person, I much prefer a spontaneous way of painting as much as my organised art will let me! I am a folk art painter so each stroke was well directed and colour matched perfectly as you usually follow someone else's directions, even so there is still some room for an individual preference. Back to my hearts. I am working in a Dylusions art journal, I skipped a few pages until I came across a manila page section as I wanted to see how well it takes Matisse Flow paints. I put out a puddle of Magenta light and a separate puddle of Deep Rose Madder both Matisse Flow. Using a Dagger brush I added some water to the Magenta to water it down slightly then quickly painted the top area of both pages, quickly I used a baby wipe to blend. then I added some water to the deep rose madder and painted the rest of the page and a little in the middle top area, quickly and gently working it into the paper. Using the baby wipe gave me a slightly mottled look. it did not blend as I would have liked it too, still I was happy with the result. most of the Matisse flow paints are pigment's so the colour are just so bright and transparent. The last two photographs is showing the details of the ghosting I made by using a baby wipe through a circle stencil, I let the page dry slightly before doing this.
Next I used a red Inktence pencil and drew some small hearts on the background, leaving the top ones open and filling the ones on the bottom of the page with red Inktence pencil. I then used a no 2 round brush, slightly damp and worked it around the edges of some and filled in the colour on others. I let this dry really well and prepared some hearts playing with colours. I used 90gm watercolour paper. Heart one; I sprayed a small area with Heidi Swapp colour Shine in Seafoam, let this dry very well. When dry I used Matisse Flow in aqua light to dab in some dots, I used a no 2 round brush. Heart two; I painted with Matisse Iso Yellow. draw on some small circles, use white pigment pen to fill in circle. Heart three; I painted with Matisse deep rose madder, air dry a little then placed a stencil on top and then used a baby wipe to remove some of the rose madder. Remove stencil and dry. add small dots with a pigment pen. When the base colour was dry I used a home made stencil and drew 3 hearts onto each coloured watercolour paper. Cut out, before you decorate. I also made a larger heart and painted it with washy Iso Yellow as you can see in the photograph. I am not sure if I will use all the hearts shown as yet. My next step was to glue the hearts on the left hand page, when I was happy with that I paint in the black area of the large hearts on the right page, this I used Mars black, Matisse flow. When dry I used a white pigment pen to place dots around the outer edge of all the large hearts and around the black area.
With a black pen I then drew in two wavy lines around the left page starting at the black edge of the right page. See photographs for placement. Use the same pen to draw in the strings and small loops at the top and bottom of the string of hearts. Outline the outside of the hearts in black pen. Make a wavy line for the words and add words of your choice. Follow your heart you never know where it may lead. Stamp some butterfly's in the large hearts on the right page. I may add some sparkle on the butterflies when it has all dried. Have Fun! |
